Before you book

Good to know

Two short reads. The first is a promise we ask of every guest before they arrive. The second is how a shared home works once you are here.

Every guest makes this before arriving

The Green Travel Promise

The mountains aren't a separate world you visit for a few days. They're upstream of almost everything, including the life you return to.

Rivers that fill your taps start as glaciers up here. Forests that hold the slopes together keep landslides and floods from reaching the plains.

That's not a reason to feel guilty about visiting. It's a reason to visit well — to help preserve these mountains not just for us, but for you, and for our children too.

Green Travel isn't a checklist we hand out. It's much more. It's a way of living we've grown into. And we ask the same of every guest who stays with us.

I will explore without disturbing or destroying.

It's one line. It shapes everything we do — how we host, how we brief our guests, and how we move through these places.

The Green Travel Promise means three things

  1. Be respectful

To the land, the village, and the quiet.

  2. Carry your trash back

What you bring, you take back.

  3. Dress modestly

These are quiet, traditional villages, and modest dress goes a long way.

If carrying it back isn't possible

We'll take care of it for you, at these rates:

Plastic bottles & wrappers
₹100 each
Glass bottles
₹200 each
Sanitary waste and diapers
Always on us — no charge

A few easy tips

To help Green Travel go smoothly:

  • Avoid single-use plastics. Carry a reusable water bottle and bag instead.
  • Keep a dustbin in your cab and use it, rather than throwing trash out on the road. There are designated disposal spots along the highway.
  • Keep your trash with you while exploring outdoors. A carry bag in your backpack makes this easy.

Any other help you need, just let us know.

Once you're here

House rules

You'll love spending time in our lounge, dining together, gathering round the fireplace, and simply soaking in the mountains.

This is a home, and homes work because everyone staying in them looks out for each other. That's really what all these rules are — small things that let your fellow guests, you and us all have a good stay at the same time.

A few simple house rules to keep in mind

  • Be respectful to everyone.
  • No smoking inside the rooms.
  • Main meals are served in the dining hall. Snacks and beverages can be ordered in.
  • Please keep to meal hours, so every meal can be served fresh and hot.
  • Quiet hours are observed at night.
  • Check-in and check-out are both 12 noon.
  • Housekeeping is on request.
  • Linen and towels are changed once every four days. Items can be quick-dried in the sun in between, if needed.

If this sounds like your kind of getaway, we'd love to host you.

Common questions

What is the Burānsh Stays Green Travel Promise?

Every guest makes one promise before arriving: I will explore without disturbing or destroying. In practice it means three things — be respectful to the land, the village and the quiet; carry your trash back out; and dress modestly in what are traditional Himalayan villages.

What happens if I cannot carry my trash back?

Burānsh Stays will dispose of it for you at cost: ₹100 for each plastic bottle or wrapper, ₹200 for each glass bottle. Sanitary waste and diapers are always handled free of charge. Carrying a bag in your backpack usually makes taking it out yourself simple.

What is the cancellation policy at Burānsh Stays?

Cancel 30 or more days before arrival for a full refund. Inside 30 days there is no refund, but the stay can be rescheduled once within 90 days. Early check-outs are not refunded. Bookings are made over WhatsApp, so tell us as soon as plans change.

What are the check-in and check-out times at Burānsh Stays?

Check-in and check-out are both 12 noon, at The Tāl in Sari and at Dea Avnovā in Mandal. Roads through the hills rarely run to schedule, so share your rough arrival time when booking and we will work around it where the room allows.

Is smoking allowed at Burānsh Stays?

Smoking is not allowed inside the rooms at either property. The stays are shared homes with common lounges and dining areas, and quiet hours are observed at night, so the rules exist to keep the space comfortable for everyone staying at once.

How are meals served at Burānsh Stays?

Main meals are served in the dining hall at set hours so every plate goes out fresh and hot. Snacks and beverages can be ordered to your room. Two meals a day are included in every nightly rate, cooked fresh, mostly Garhwali.

How often are linen and towels changed?

Linen and towels are changed once every four days at both stays. Items can be quick-dried in the sun in between if you need them sooner. Housekeeping is on request rather than daily, which keeps water and detergent use down in a mountain village.
